English education at Keimei Gakuen

English education at Keimei Gakuen

English education at Keimei Gakuen gives students the opportunity to learn with both native English speaking teachers and Japanese teachers of English.  Students and teachers from all over the world gather in dedicated English classrooms to focus on reading, writing, and discussing world literature and current events.  We strive to create an academic environment that is equivalent to English courses in Western educational systems.  Students with different backgrounds are taught by teachers with different backgrounds.  Keimei Gakuen is a place to feel comfortable, expresses yourself, learn, and grow.  We at Keimei Gakuen believe that English is something not only to learn, but to use; a useful tool that will open up doors of opportunity at home and abroad.

Courses provided by our English department help students transition smoothly from elementary to junior high, to senior high, to the future.  Small class sizes with individual nurturing and attention provide students with a minimum of 5 hours of English education per week.  Our curriculum is derived from the core curriculums of the UK, the United States, Australia, and Canada.  We study a diverse range of texts in British and American English.  Each year students read increasingly complex and rewarding novels, short stories, non-fiction, plays, and poetry.  Our six-year English program introduces students to authors and styles of writing to learn from and emulate as they enrich their own effective use of language.

Students take this newfound knowledge and with the close help of teachers and peers, work on presenting it in different forms, such as:  Discussion, presentation, debate, persuasive writing, descriptive writing, creative writing, essays, and speeches.  Through these activities, our students continue their development as individual learners and future members of this global society.
