We use methods that are easy to visualize, such as experiences, hands-on activities, and paraphrasing, to help students understand and express themselves in Japanese.
To support students as they learn subject content in Japanese, we provide visual aids and hands-on experiences that support the formation of abstract concepts and promote understanding and thinking about the subjects.
We view learning itself as an experience in thinking, understanding, and expressing through the Japanese language.

Introductory Japanese lessons
Our introductory Japanese lessons include the basic daily conversation skills needed for school life; fundamental character instruction; usage and conjugation of particles, verbs, and adjectives; and composition of short sentences.
We incorporate tangible materials and physical movement to create situations in which students can use and naturally grasp the meaning of words and expressions.
(For children who grow up exposed to multiple languages, learning to read and write in Japanese requires not only studying hiragana, katakana, and kanji but also engaging in a wide range of practice and steady accumulation of skills, such as moving from concrete to abstract thinking, from simple to complex sentences, providing reason-based explanations, and writing in a logical manner.)
